What Are Some Different Types of Construction Defects?

If you’re having work done on your property in San Francisco, you no doubt expect the contractors to do their absolute best. However, construction defects can occur, and in some cases they can cost you exorbitant amounts of money (or at least a great deal of hassle). Travelers offers insight into some of the different types of defects that can happen during construction so you can readily identify any issues.

Problems With Materials

The materials used during construction can pose a number of issues. For instance, faulty windows will let in moisture, which in turn can damage other areas in the home. A contractor might also use materials of a lower quality in an attempt to save money, and these materials often require more upkeep and have a significantly shorter lifespan.

Issues With Design

The design of a structure itself can also be a problem. Consider how important a home’s structural support is. If there are problems with its design the entire building can be compromised (which may result in bowing walls, sinking floors, and a number of other concerns). Other parts of the home can also be designed in a defective way, such as roofs that allow in inclement weather or wind and cold.

Poor Workmanship

Even if materials and design are sound, construction may suffer as a result of poor workmanship. Contractors must install fixtures (like plumbing) in the correct manner, or serious deficiencies will occur. Additionally, when one fixture is implemented in a subpar way, other areas of the home can also be impacted. This will lead to the need for further repair, and these costs are often passed along to the owner of the property.
